Vista File Copy Blows - Seek Alternative
How many Vista users out there? I know many people don't like it, but I haven't had many problems with it ... I'm running Vista Ultimate on one laptop, and Mac OSX on another.
Anyways, one of my main complaints about Vista is that it tries to estimate the time to copy files prior to even starting the process... we all know that Microsoft cannot estimate that time by any means, so waiting five or ten minutes prior to even starting the process is not a great idea...
What can you do about it? Disable it ... lol, try at least.... The best solution I found that to install this program call Teracopy, a free-ware software that replaces your XP/Vista built-in copying engine to deliver faster results... and it does! In addition it has a couple of additional perks such as pause, resume, and error recovery. This is my new must-have program for Vista users.

1. Does it run under Vista, no mention of it and the screen shots are XP
2. If you uninstall is Windows copying restored fully
3. Does it work for dragging and dropping and right click copy / paste operations
4. Does it have any anoying message or add ware trying to get you to buy Pro
1. Yes, I only downloaded it because of Vista; I never had such problems copying files with XP.
2. Dunno; I would assume so. If for some reason it doesn't, you can disable Teracopy through its settings.
3. Yes. It has shell integration and by default it takes over the default drag and drop operation. You can change that behavior through settings.
4. No, there is a small deference about getting the pro in the copy status window. No popup, reminders, or notifications.
@Josua, thanks for the update, though, even if they fix it, I'm staying with Teracopy... I even installed it on my XP workstation.... I like it much better than the default file copy.

Both will be available sometime the following days via Windows Update
It still took Vista 4 minutes to calculate time remaining for a 700 Meg file, then it's top transfer speed was 624KBs. That's after installing and rebooting.
One thing I noticed though, when installing both Fixes, as the install progress bar moved along in green, at the end, the bar turned red and the word "Failed" appeared than the install screen closed to a install screen saying it had completed successfully. I tried to capture this but it's too fast. i uninstalled them both, rebooted and reinstalled but it's still too fast to capture. Point is, the Fixes don't fix the slow calculate nor improve by any means, the very slow transfer tween XP to Vista. In fact, I downloaded the 700 meg file off the net by the XP to the XP faster than I can have Vista Copy & Paste it from the XP to the Vista.
